OCTOBER'S FEATURED ARTIST - GARETH JONES

Gareth Jones is a contemporary painter working in acrylic and dry media. His paintings are inspired by memories of places, landscapes and environments, but rather than depicting a specific location, they explore how we experience and remember space.

By combining fragments of the real world with instinctive mark-making, Gareth creates atmospheric works that sit somewhere between abstraction and recognition. They invite viewers to slow down, look closely and discover their own connections within each piece.

Rather than telling a fixed story, Gareth's paintings encourage personal interpretation. Memories, emotions and imagined places often emerge differently for every viewer, making each encounter with the work unique.

Based on the belief that painting can communicate beyond words, Gareth's work creates an open conversation between artist, artwork and viewer—one that continues long after the first impression.

MEET GARETH JONES

Gareth Jones is an abstract painter working in acrylic and dry media, whose work explores thoughts, memories, and personal experiences of space and environment. Rather than depicting specific locations or relying on traditional painting techniques, Jones uses a mix of structured rules and intuitive improvisation to create evocative, "internal landscapes."

His paintings are designed as open conversations, inviting viewers to bring their own feelings and imagination to each piece. By bypassing verbal language, his work aims to trigger a direct, sensory reaction—connecting straight to the viewer's memory and emotions. For Jones, the true meaning of an artwork isn't something to be explained or analyzed with words; it is found entirely in the unique, personal feeling experienced while looking at it.

curator's note

Gareth's work perfectly reflects the spirit of PAUSE. His paintings reward curiosity, inviting visitors to slow down, look beyond first impressions and discover their own personal connection with each piece
